Based in a village on the Thames River called Bourne End, in the beautiful (in places) Thames Valley - not far from places people have heard of - Henley upon Thames (of annual Regatta fame) is about 10 miles away in one direction, Windsor (home of some royal types) about 10 miles in another, about mid-way between London's Heathrow Airport and Reading (a large town to the West of London).

When at University (long ago) had a part time job managing my college's node on the then emerging Internet - at the time network was called Janet (for Joint Academic Network). Our node (called Mum - Multi-user Mini) ran on a Vax-like machine called a GEC 4070 which filled a large air-conditioned room (part of my interest in the job was the air-con!) and had considerably less processing power / memory than early IBM PCs, and would be totally outclassed by an iPhone. My first job upon graduation was for a power utility working on the application of AI to the analysis of power system simulation results.
